Sriram Sudarsanam is a post-doctoral scholar studying how myelination regulates interneuron function. He is working in collaboration with Brad Zuchero’s lab to develop novel genetic tools to observe and perturb neuron-oligodendrocyte interactions in vivo, which he will then use to understand how myelination can tune specific microcircuits. Sriram completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Science, and Masters at the Weizmann Institute. He then performed his doctoral research in Alex Kolodkin’s laboratory at Johns Hopkins. Here, he employed genetic strategies to visualize and perturb sparse populations of developing neurons in the mouse brain, identifying the molecular and cellular determinants underlying the diverse axonal arborization patterns of cortical neuron sub-classes. Outside the lab, Sriram enjoys running on and around campus, as well as exploring the plethora of picturesque hiking trails in the Bay Area.
